“With a Lot of Success Comes a Lot of Negativity” --Queen B
For various reasons, many don’t believe that Beyonce is a good fit for the “Ban Bossy” campaign. One article states: “Beyonce apparently believes that empowering women not only calls for the banning of certain words but also the constant sexual objectification of females and dressing up like a stripper at every opportunity” (http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/huntwork/140414). Let’s get this straight—Beyonce is an artist and a performer, and an excellent one at that. Her wearing reveling clothing while performing on stage is in no way indicative of her character. If people actually took the time to watch her in interviews and in her documentary, they would actually be able to see the driven and warm-hearted person that she is. In an article from Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/03/14/female-bosss-thoughts-on-sheryl-sandberg-ban-bossy-campaign/), the author picks apart the lyrics from, not only Beyonce’s songs, but also from her husband, Jay-Z’s songs. To actually go through their songs and pick out lyrics that might make them appear to be bad people is beyond ridiculous. There is a lot more to Beyonce and Jay-Z than the lyrics in some of their songs, but, |
clearly, some are too blind to realize that.
Beyonce has been a role model of mine for many years; she’s what I view as the ideal woman. From her undeniable beauty, to her remarkable independence, to her immense talent as both a singer and a dancer, there’s no question as to why she is a role model to many. Through her music, I have gotten through many difficult times. Powerful songs like “Listen” and “Me, Myself, and I” pull me through challenging situations to this day. These songs serve as a constant reminder that I can achieve anything I want to on my own. In Beyonce’s documentary, “Life is But a Dream” (http://banbossy.weebly.com/videos.html), she mentions how difficult it was for her to let her father go as her manager. This was an important step in Beyonce’s career as it allowed her to grow as an independent artist. Many of the career choices that Beyonce has made, such as this one, have made me come to realize just how important it is to me to become fully independent in everything that I do. I find independence to be such a vital trait and I feel as though there is no question as to why Beyonce is a perfect match for the “Ban Bossy” campaign. Beyonce has proven to be an extremely hard worker and her presence as ‘the boss’ is very clear. |
